What Are Your Options for Treating Allergies?

Written by | Medically Reviewed by | Updated on

Allergens impact over 50 million people in the United States each year. Anything containing an antigen, from the food we eat to particles in the air we breathe, may set off an over-active immune response in the body.

Allergic reactions may range from annoying to life-threatening. They impact the quality of life, sometimes on a daily basis.

Fortunately, treatment can help. Read on to learn about your options for treating allergies.

Soliman Auricular Allergy Treatment (SAAT)

Soliman Auricular Allergy Treatment (SAAT) refers to a new and highly effective type of allergy treatment. This option offers a completely holistic approach and treats all different types of allergies.

It involves the ancient healing practice of acupuncture. With only one needle strategically placed in your ear, your acupuncturist may treat five to seven allergies at once. You can expect to keep this small acupuncture needle in for several weeks.

Before beginning treatment, you get tested to see which allergens affect you. Several weeks after treatment, they will test you again to see whether or not you need the needle longer.

By targeting a high voltage point in your ear, this needle helps reprogram your body’s immune response. This fixes the problem at the root of the cause rather than offering a bandaid solution like medications.

Allergy Medication

You can buy allergy medications over the counter or receive a prescription from your doctor. Though they may ease your symptoms at the moment, the effect will not last long. Plus, like with most medications, you may experience side effects.

For example, antihistamines block histamine, a chemical made by your body that causes itching and other uncomfortable symptoms in response to an allergen. This affects your natural sleep-wake cycle, causing drowsiness.

You can take allergy medication when necessary. But you can stop putting chemicals into your body by receiving SAAT.

Avoidance

You will not experience an allergic reaction without coming into contact with the allergen. So avoidance allows you to effectively stop allergic reactions.

The problem with this is that it is difficult to avoid most of the common allergens. This can result in time-consuming practices to superclean your home, avoiding restaurants, constantly reading labels, and not doing things that you enjoy.

Allergens can sometimes slip through the cracks of even the best efforts. For some people, this can result in a deadly reaction.

Epinephrine

While presented as an option, this is more of a necessity for people with severe allergies. Ask your doctor if you should carry around an Epi-pen.

An epi-pen contains epinephrine that you inject into your leg during a reaction. Epinephrine, or synthetic adrenaline, restricts blood flow and opens up the airway to stop anaphylaxis.

SAAT helps stop your body from reacting to the allergen in the first place. However, you may want to always keep an Epi-pen with you.
